Legal Wills for Canada and Mexico
Having a legal will is essential to ensuring that your wishes for the distribution of your assets are honored after your passing. A properly completed will helps to prevent disputes among family members, provides clarity on guardianship for dependents, and can minimize the complexity of the probate process, saving time and legal expense.
If you own property or assets located in Canada, like real estate, investments, or bank accounts, it is important to have a will that complies with the laws of your home jurisdiction t. A Canadian will, though, is not recognized in Mexico (and a Mexican will is not recognized in Canada). If you have Mexican property or assets you should have a separate Mexican will (or “testamento”) completed in accordance with Mexican law.
Whether you are already residing in Mexico or in the process of moving, it is very important to have the proper estate plan in place to protect your assets.
Our Services
Our affordable estate planning packages include
Simple Canadian Will (tailored to your home Canadian province) - $699.00 CAD for an individual, or $999.00 CAD for a couple.
Simple Mexican Testamento (along with English translation) - $699.00 CAD for an individual, or $999.00 CAD for a couple.
Combination Canadian and Mexican Estate Plan (a simple Canadian and simple Mexican Testamento, with English translation) - $1,299.00 CAD for an individual, or $1,799.00 CAD for a couple.
Complex Canadian and Mexican Estate Plan - for people who have more complicated circumstances, such as an ongoing business venture, complex tax planning needs, complicated family dynamics or divorce settlements, or large number of gifts, there will be a larger fee than the standard package. The total fee will be agreed upon between the client and the firm prior to work being undertaken.
How it Works
When you contact us to create your estate plan, we will schedule an introductory videoconference to discuss your questions and take your estate planning instructions. Using your instructions and our knowledge of your personal circumstances, we will draft the required estate planning documents (including the English translation of the Testamento), then schedule a face-to-face meeting with our Canadian, English-speaking lawyer at our Puerto Vallarta satellite office.
